On March 14, 2026, Hugh Royer III was officially inducted into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026! Royer was joined by Louis Brown, Frank Culpepper and Dan Van Horn in this year's class.
Born in Columbus, Ga., in 1964, Royer was introduced to golf at an early age by his father and Georgia Golf Hall of Famer, Hugh Royer, Jr. A standout junior and collegiate player, he earned seven top-10 finishes and one win in two seasons at Mississippi State before transferring to Columbus College (now Columbus State University), where he captured the NCAA Division II National Championship and was named an All-American.
Royer’s amateur resume features victories at the 1986 Georgia Amateur and Southeastern Amateur, followed by a remarkable 1987 season in which he returned from open-heart surgery to finish runner-up at the Georgia Amateur and win both the Azalea Amateur Invitational and Western Amateur. He went on to turn professional and win on the South African Tour and four times on what is now the Korn Ferry Tour before competing on the PGA TOUR. He then built a second career as a respected instructor. Already a member of the Columbus State University Athletic Hall of Fame, Royer’s induction made the Royers the fourth father-son duo enshrined in the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame.
