Scholarship Programs

Yates Scholarships are awarded to employees, or dependent of employees, of GSGA Member Clubs. These individuals may be employed in any area of a club’s operation - golf operations, golf course maintenance or clubhouse. Financial need, academic achievement, and character are considered in the application and interview process for the candidates. 

Moncrief Scholarships are awarded to students majoring in Turfgrass Management or Agronomy at the University of Georgia, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and students who work and live in Georgia, but attend an accredited school outside of the state.

In Georgia, if the school is eligible for the Hope Scholarship, then it is eligible for the Yates Scholarship. Outside of Georgia, the school must be accredited.

No. Golf is not required in the Yates and Moncrief Scholarship process. 

The scholarships are one-year grants. The scholarships are eligible for renewal up to a student’s fourth year of college, assuming the scholar meets the scholarship requirements.

The number of scholarships awarded each year is determined by the GSGA Foundation Scholarship Committee and the GSGA Foundation’s Board of Trustees. For the 2026-27 academic year, the GSGA Foundation has awarded scholarships to 80 students (this includes both Yates and Moncrief Scholars).

No. The scholarship programs are available to those students pursuing their first bachelor's degree.

Yes, you may apply for both as long as you meet the eligibility requirements. However, it is not possible to receive both during the same school year.

Students applying for the first time (or reapplying after not receiving a scholarship in a previous year) may submit their application between September 1 and March 1 for the upcoming school year.

Current GSGA Foundation scholars may submit their renewal application between May 15 and June 15 for the upcoming school year.

Yes, there is no limit to how many Yates Scholars a club can have each year.

No, the scholarship programs are an additional benefit of a club’s membership in the Georgia State Golf Association.

All scholarship amounts are determined by the GSGA Foundation Scholarship Committee. The total amount awarded in 2026-27 was $447,085 and distributed to 80 scholars.

Scholarship funds may be used to cover all college-related expenses (tuition, books, fees, housing, food, etc). 

Scholarship recipients are not required to participate in GSGA Foundation events or activities, but are encouraged to stay involved. These opportunities allow scholars to build relationships with one another that can lead to lasting friendships, a strong sense of community, and valuable networking opportunities.
