Ava Merrill Wins 96th Georgia Women’s Amateur Championship

Dunwoody, Ga. - Ava Merrill of Johns Creek established a new championship scoring record on her way to capturing the 96th Georgia Women's Amateur Championship at Dunwoody Country Club! The championship was contested June 30 - July 2.

Merrill (66-69-66) began the final round with a one-shot advantage and came out firing with a hole-out for eagle from the fairway on the par-4 second and a chip-in for birdie on the par-3 third. She followed with another birdie on the par-5 fourth.

The rising Vanderbilt University junior did not stop there finishing two-under over the final 14 holes to finish at 6-under for the day to capture the title by two shots over Mary Miller of Savannah (71-65-67). Merrill's 15-under 201 bested the previous championship scoring record of 205.

Along with her victory, Merrill earned an exemption into the 125th U.S. Women's Amateur in August at Bandon Dunes and the 2026 Sea Island Women's Amateur.

Miller earned the Ceil MacLaurin Trophy for the lowest round of the championship thanks to her second round 65 (7-under), which also tied Mariah Stackhouse's record for lowest round in Georgia Women's Amateur history.

Kylie Chung of Cumming (68-69-68) finished in third place at 11-under-par, while Loralie Cowart of Douglasville (70-68-70) finished in fourth at 8-under. Rounding out the top five was Thanana Kotchasanmanee of Rome (69-72-72), who finished at 3-under.

Sarah Gallagher of Canton (73-76-77) won the Burns Cup as the low senior of the championship.

This marked the first time Dunwoody Country Club had hosted the prestigious championship.

In 2026, Athens Country Club will host for the first since 1998 and sixth time overall (1959, 1964, 1969, 1983, 1998).
