Jake Peacock Wins 102nd Georgia Amateur Championship

Johns Creek, Ga. – Jake Peacock of Milton posts a 1-under-par 71 in the final round on Sunday and wins the Georgia Amateur Championship. The 102nd playing of the State Amateur took place at Rivermont Golf Club, July 13-16.

Peacock's final score of 6-under-par 278 (68-68-71-71) was good enough for a one-stroke victory to hoist the Robert H. Martin Trophy. The 20-year-old only scored a birdie on his second hole of the day before going bogey-bogey-double bogey on the fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. He rebounded quite nice after the turn with birdies on 11, 12, 14 and 15. He made par on the final three holes to seal the deal.

Peacock played golf at Cambridge High School before playing golf at Western Carolina for a year, where he earned Southern Conference Freshman of the Year honors in 2022. Last summer, he transferred schools and now plays collegiately at the University of South Florida.

John Daniel Culbreth of Thomasville earned runner-up honors at 5-under-par 279 (68-67-73-71). Canton native Connor Macmillan finished third at 3-under-par 281 (70-68-73-71). A handful of players tied for fourth at 2-under-par 282, including Jack Vajda of Waleska (70-70-74-68), Nicolas Cassidy of Johns Creek (71-69-73-69), Luke Dasher of Macon (70-70-73-69), Stephen Behr of Atlanta (73-70-69-70) and 2022 Georgia Amateur Champion William Love of Atlanta (69-73-70-70). Noah Zediker of Dahlonega (72-67-73-72) and Nate Gahman of Leesburg (75-68-69-72) rounded out the top 10 of the final leaderboard at even-par 284.

Once 36 holes were played, 60 players at 8-over-par 148 and better made the cut and competed over the weekend.

Qualifying consisted of 12 sites around the site to help determine the field of 144 players. Qualifying sites are filled on a first come, first served basis with no waiting list. Each qualifier will consist of a maximum field size of 78 players with the field competing for a number of qualifying sites determined after the close of entries on May 10, 2023.
