Louise Yu Wins Women’s Match Play Championship

Louise Yu won the Women's Match Play title in 2016 and looked dominant once again. The #3 seeded Yu advanced after a (3 and 2) victory over Meghan Nay in the round of 16 and Danielle Davis (5 and 4) in the quarterfinals. She then won her semifinals match Saturday morning against Sarah Harrison (4 and 3) to book a spot in the finals. The #5 seed Payton Schanen, who earned runner-up honors, advanced with a (2 and 1) win over Najae Butler in the round of 16 and followed it up with a win over #4 seed Lizzie Reedy (5 and 4) in the quarterfinals. She then upset top seeded Ivy Shepherd in the semifinals on Saturday morning to advance to the Championship Match.

The final match was tight for the first nine holes but then Yu started to create separation. Yu birdied holes 11, 12, and 13 on her way to a 5 and 4 victory.

Entries were open to female amateur golfers. Entrants in the Senior Women's Match Play Championship had to be 50 years of age or older as of the first day of competition.
