It was a picture perfect day at Planterra Ridge Golf Club for an 18-hole qualifier to play in the 2018 U.S. Senior Open Championship. There were three qualifying spots and two alternate positions up for grabs. The 2018 U.S. Senior Open Championship will be contested June 28-July 1, at The Broadmoor-East Course in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Jack Larkin and Sonny Skinner both posted rounds of 4-under-par 68 to secure the top two qualifying spots and tie for medalist honors. Larkin also earned low amateur honors.

Larkin was steady throughout his round and piled up five birdies during the day. Skinner, who was recently inducted into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame, also accumulated five birdies during his round.

There were three players tied at 3-under-par 69 so a playoff was needed to decide the final qualifying spot and two alternate positions.

John Smoltz, Brian Ferris, and Brian Tennyson began the playoff of hole #18. Smoltz and Ferris both made birdie while Tennyson made bogey and secured the second alternate position.

On the second playoff hole (#10), both Smoltz and Ferris made bogey. Finally, on the third playoff hole (#18) it was Smoltz that made a double bogey and secured the final qualifying spot.
