The road to USGA national championships came through Georgia on Monday, June 25. An 18-hole qualifier for the U.S. Girls' Junior was held at Cartersville Country Club with four qualifying spots up for grabs. The 2018 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship is set for Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif., July 16-21.

Three players posted rounds of 71 to tie for medalist honors and qualify. Iris Cao of Duluth, Lexanne Halama of Knoxville, TN, and Ainsley Cowart of Carrollton all posted a 1-under-par 71. Cao recently competed in the Georgia Girls' Championship at Country Club of Roswell and placed T14.

There were five players that posted rounds of even-par so a playoff was needed to determine the final qualifying spot and two alternate positions.

Ivy Shepherd of Peachtree City was able to secure the final qualifying spot. Savannah Hylton will be the first alternate and Kate Owens, who was recently runner-up at the Georgia Girls' Championship, will be second alternate.

Entries were open to female amateur golfers who will not have reached their 19th birthday as of July 21, 2018, and have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 9.4.
