Luke Dasher Wins Georgia Junior Championship

JOHNS CREEK - In an exciting final round at Rivermont Golf Club, it was Luke Dasher of Macon who stayed cool despite blistering heat to win the Georgia Junior Championship. The 52nd playing of this event took place at Rivermont Golf Club, June 18-20.

Dasher held on for the one-stroke victory after closing with par on each of the final five holes to hold off the defending champion Brandon Cho of Suwanee. Dasher's total of 2-under-par 211 (72-70-69) and the runner-up Cho's total of 1-under-par 212 (70-72-70) were the only 54-hole scores in red numbers.

The 16-year-old product, who is instructed by Georgia Golf Hall of Famer Ray Cutright out of Idle Hour Club in Macon, was calm, cool and collected all week. He started off the week with an opening round 1-over-par 72. Recording better scores each day, round two saw five birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey for a 1-under-par 70. Playing in the final group on Wednesday, Dasher delivered which proved enough to earn the win. This was Dasher's third appearance in the Georgia Junior Championship.

Samuel Lape of Atlanta finished third at 1-over-par 214 (72-69-73). Two players tied for fourth at 2-over-par 215, including Andy Mao of Johns Creek (70-72-73) and Myles Jones of Suwanee (71-71-73). Grant Sutliff of Cumming, who was runner-up at last year's Georgia Junior, finished sixth this year at 3-over-par 216 (74-76-66). Eli Scott of Hartwell (73-75-70) and Erik Forberg of Cumming (67-78-73) tied for seventh at 5-over-par 218. Rounding out the top 10 were two at 6-over-par 219 - Takafumi Shimoji of Suwanee (77-72-70) and Will Kahlstorf of Watkinsville (72-73-74).

The top eight spots on the final leaderboard also earn the right to represent the state at the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match, which will be played at The Landings Club-Deer Creek in Savannah, July 20-21. Team Georgia will be made up Dasher, Cho, Lape, Mao, Jones, Sutliff, Scott and Forberg.

Once 36 holes were played, 72 players made the cut at 16-over-par 158 and better and played in the final round at Rivermont Golf Club.
